Our School

First Ave PS

We would like to acknowledge that our schools are on unceded Algonquin Territory, and thank the Algonquin Nation for hosting us on their land.

Our School

First Avenue Public School is a beautiful brick schoolhouse that symbolizes over 100 successful years in education. The school was built in 1898 and was officially opened in 1899. The community joined together to celebrate the school’s centennial year in 1999, proud to have the school designated as a heritage site by the City of Ottawa. Educational programs at First Avenue include English (Kindergarten – grade 6), Middle French Immersion (grade 4-6) and a Congregated Gifted Class.

Our Students

First Avenue has an enrolment of 150 students from Kindergarten to grade 6. Many of our students go on to Glashan Public School for grades 7 and 8 and to Glebe Collegiate, Canterbury or Lisgar Collegiate for the secondary years. Our students are keen and motivated learners who enjoy the advantage of home support.

Our Staff

First Avenue has over 25 staff. We have an ideal partnership of mature, experienced educators who mentor the enthusiastic newer members of the teaching profession.
